 The Learning
Zone began in 1993 as a family day care home. We currently offer family child care,
educational consulting, presentation and seminar services, and mail-order monthly activity
kits designed for use with children.
There is a nation-wide shortage of child care providers. In 1997, the Business
Record studied Central Iowa's child care situation and discovered the extent of the child
care crisis. Their findings showed that while there were more than 52,000 children under
age 12 with working parents, there
were only 27,000 full-time child care openings.
I believe there are varied reasons why these shortages still exist. My personal
examination of these issues is what prompted me to expand the services that the Learning
Zone provides to more than family child care alone.
The Learning Zone is a family business. My husband, Tom, and I are proud of the way the
Learning Zone has evolved into a more diverse service, assisting many parents, teachers,
and child care providers. The Learning Zone is dedicated to fostering excellence in the
early childhood field through
raising the standard of professionalism and increasing parent and provider education. We
