Kim's Reflections Nicholas He is growing soooo much! He’s not doing a traditional crawl, but he is definitely on the move! He positions and repositions himself with his knees tucked under his body in a crawling position. He shoots me a sly grin as he rocks back in forth in this "I’m ready to go" position. Then he leans back, almost to a sitting position! Nicholas has entered a new world of discovery. Am I going to be busy!!!
Wade Wade has also entered the I Wanna Do It All By Myself! stage of Toddlerhood. Stop, Wade! You’re still an infant for 3 more months! Wade wants to do absolutely everything all by himself— you name it. He even insists on playing with Big Sister’s toys instead. Oh yes, did I forget? Wade is pulling himself up to a standing position every chance he gets. (I suddenly get a flashback to a 1970’s episode of Lost in Space. "Danger Will Robinson! Danger, danger!")
Lily The smile on her mischievous face tells the crowd they better Look Out!, but there never really is a point where you can see the frames move from standing still, to walking, to jogging, to running like the devil. Lily is the only person, (Olympic athletes included) that I’ve ever seen morph from standing still to running like the devil in a time increment so small it can’t possibly be recorded by the human eye. That Lily! She’s not vanilla. She’s definitely the flavor of the month!
Jonah (I had a music tape playing in the background and Jonah had put down the blocks he was playing with, in order to dance.) Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star was playing and Jonah was a little man with rhythm! He then began singing more loudly than the cassette played, echoing the lyrics with the vibrancy of an angelic choir! Ooooh, Carol, how I wish I had a video camera handy! These are the things that childhood is made of! I smiled at Jonah’s passion, then turned my head quickly, so Jonah would not catch even a glance in his direction. This was a moment so big, yet so spontaneous! He was so caught up in the music. I didn’t want him to know I shared it with him, lest he object- even a little...
Lauren Lauren is asking me to play this interactive video that has songs ranging from The Wheels on the Bus to God Made Me. The video is not a sit-on-the-couch type project. Oh, No! On the contrary, you better stretch out before inserting the tape into the VCR. Lauren does all of the actions to each song along with me. Lauren is on key and in prime form! Even her facial expressions closely resemble the ones seen on the young faces on the television. She mimics and she mimics well. She puts her left arm around my shoulder as I sit up on my knees to her left side. She looks at me as she sings The More We Get Together, as we rock merrily from side to side. Her laugh differs from her brother’s, but not in it’s joyous and contagious quality!
Emily Emily adores her brother. (Even when it may not seem like it.) Her older brother began coming here, gosh, a long darn time ago, and left to go to Kindergarten. Now in first grade, Ryan is involved in a lot of more mature studies than is Emily. Emily, wanting to become an even more integral part of her big brother’s life, saturates herself in it. Oh, even the outsider can see Emily’s affection! "Kim," she asks as she views me grabbing an envelope from the hutch, "how do you spell envelope?" Oh, Yes! Emily asks how to spell absolutely everything she sees. This is her way of lovingly and proudly entering her big brother’s world. I sure am glad Ryan isn’t at college now studying chemistry or physics!
